Check for defects in the mattress

We bought a new mattress from the El Cajon store that was supposed to arrive in 30 days, but when it did not arrive, we called customer service and were told that we could exchange it or return it within 30 days as long as we purchased a $80 protective mattress pad. We did so, but after sleeping on the mattress for one night, we returned to Jerome's and spoke with a salesman. He claimed he never said that and refused to exchange or refund the mattress. We are waiting for Jerome's to send someone out to check for defects in the mattress.
